Reject proposals to reinstate GSP+ to Sri Lanka
In a letter to the European Parliament on 3 February 2017, a group of NGOs and individuals expressed concerned by the EU Commission’s recent proposal on 11 January 2017, to restore GSP+ status to Sri Lanka, following its suspension in August 2010 in response to the deteriorating human rights situation. It called on the European Parliament to reject the EU Commission’s proposal to restore the GSP+ trade preference status to Sri Lanka.
It urged members of the EU Parliament to review the factual basis of the EU Commission’s case for restoration of GSP+ and reject the proposal pending progress in the implementation of the respective recommendations of the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and the UNCAT.
