Tamil political parties call for Hartal in North and East

Hartal amparaThe Tamil National Alliance and the Tamil National Peoples Front (TNPF) have called for hartals in Jaffna, Killinochchi and Vavuniya on Friday November 13 to demand for the release of Tamil political prisoners.

The TNPF leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam called for the shutting down of all shops, schools, universities and higher education institutions in Jaffna and Killinochchi a statement calling for the strike action.

The TNA on Sunday, called for a hartal in Vavuniya to demand the release of Tamil political prisoners who were meant to have been released on Saturday.

Tamil politicians and family members of those detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) took part in a public protest on 07 November outside the Mallavi Sivan Temple in Mullaitivvu calling for the immediate release of Tamil political prisoners.
