Ex-LTTE Women’s Political Head Thamilini dies

Sivakamy Sivasubramaniyam alias Thamilni, who was the former head of LTTE’s Women Political Wing, passed away on 18 October 2015 at the Maharagama cancer hospital after battling cancer for some months. Thamilni, 43 years old was  born to an Up-Country Tamil family settled in Paranthan in Vanni. She joined LTTE in 1991 and became the head of LTTE Women’s Wing and was in the LTTE for almost 18 years. She earned the trust of the LTTE leader V. Pirapaharan for her political work and was one of the foremost political leaders of the LTTE.

Thamilini was held by the military on 27 May 2009 and after her release from ‘rehabilitation’ in June 2013, and was active on social media in the recent months.

Thamilni married  M. Jeyakumaran,  from the UK in  2013.

Her funeral is to take place in Paranthan, Kilinochchi, on 20 October 2015.
