US will work with President Sirisena
The US Embassy said that they will continue to work with President Maithripala Sirisena as he has promised to address some long standing issues related to human rights. Referring to the US State Department’s recent report on human rights practices, US Embassy spokesman, Joshua Shen said that the report was looking back at the year 2014.He said that the United States was looking forward to working with President Maithripala Sirisena as this government works to pursue a future for Sri Lanka that is peaceful, democratic and prosperous.
“He has promised to address human rights issues, establish good governance and the rule of law. We are looking forward to working with President Sirisena and this government to support this cause. The United States continues to engage regularly with the Sri Lankan government and civil society representatives to address long standing issues related to reconciliation, democratic governance, justice and accountability,” he said.
According to the US Embassy, the President has promised to address those long standing issues and they will work with the Sri Lankan government and civil society on such issues.
