New Memorial for IPKF soldiers

IPKF memorial JfnA new memorial for the IPKF soldiers killed in the North had been erected in areas of Palaly. Soldiers of Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) who paid supreme sacrifice during their mission in Sri Lanka between July 1987 and March 1990 were remembered at a ceremony on 5th June 2015.

33 soldiers of the 10th Para-Commando Regiment including Lt.Col.Arunkumar Chhabra were killed by the LTTE , when they were landed by helicopters in areas around the Jaffna University premises in an attempt to surround the headquarters of the LTTE, during the mid-night of 12th October 1987.

The Indian Deputy Commissioner in Jaffna, A.Nadarajan, the Military Attache of Indian Embassy in Colombo, Captain Prakash Gopalan and the Commander of the 51 Division Brigadier S.K. Thirunavukarasu participated in the Occasion.
