Ban on events commemorating LTTE
The Mullaitivu Magistrate has banned all events to be held in the area to commemorate the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for 14 days.
Citing reports of groups like Tamil National People’s Front planning to hold a rally on May 18, police contended that the events would disturb peace.
A few days back, the Sri Lankan government announced that it would no more observe Victory Day on May 19. (The Hindu)
