TN Fishermen Representatives meet SL Leaders
A group of five fishermen from Tamil Nadu met Sri Lankan government officials and functionaries of Sri Lankan Fishermen’s Associations in a bid to sort out various problems faced by them, including their rights in the traditional fishing areas in the Palk Strait.
Sesuraja, President of Rameswaram Fishermen’s Association, a registered body, told PTI that the officials and functionaries in the meeting held a few days back, had assured them that they would consider the request.
They had also assured them to release the 37 fishermen who were still in the Sri Lankan prison.
He said Sri Lanka had agreed to take steps for holding official level and fishermen level talks to sort out various other problems. (New Indian Express)
