Meeting between President and ex President cancelled
A meeting that was reportedly scheduled between Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been cancelled.
United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Kumara Welgama told a news conference that the meeting has been cancelled due to Rajapaksa’s busy schedule.
According to reports, Welgama, who had facilitated the meeting, has said the President had agreed to meet the former president tomorrow at 7.00 p.m., but Rajapaksa has a busy schedule for tomorrow.
However, Welgama told BBC Sandeshaya that he took the initiative to mediate a discussion between the two leaders to unite the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) that has been split into two camps but the prevailing revengeful atmosphere is not conducive for such a meeting and therefore the meeting has to be postponed.
