Kachchativu St. Anthony’s Church feast on Feb 29

Kachchatheevu_2The Annual Feast of St. Anthony’s Church Kachchativu is scheduled to be held on February 29. The feast is conducted every year with the  participation of a large number of Indian and Sri Lankan devotees.The Feast recommenced in 2012 after a lapses of 26 years.

The Sri Lanka Navy will assist in the conducting of the annual feast of St. Anthony’s Church in Kachchativu  and has provided all infrastructure facilities including developing all by-roads and have also installed drinking water and other facilities in Kachchativu island.

Jetties have been constructed to secure boats while Navy life saving and medical teams have also been deployed to ensure devotees’ safety.

Around 6,000 devotees participated in this pilgrimage last year. The feast of Kachchativu Church is dedicated to St. Anthony, the patron-saint of seafarers. The church was built in the early 20th century by fishermen.
