Maj. General A.W.J.C De Silva appointed Commander of the Army
Major General A.W.J.C De Silva RWP USP ndu psc has been appointed as the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, effective from February 22, 2015 by President Maithripala Sirisena the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence announced on Friday (20 Feb).
He joined the Army on 06 February 1980 and was commissioned a 2 Lieutenant to the 1 Field Engineer Regiment of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers on 18 July 1981 was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2009. Major General De Silva commanded the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) prior to being appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Army on July on August 1, 2013.
Major General De Silva counts over 33 years of distinguished service in the Army, was awarded the gallantry medal Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and the Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP).
Major General De Silva, is married to Ms. Nayana De Silva and the father of twin sons. He is an old boy of Royal College Colombo.
