Resolution tabled and adopted at a correct time
The Genocide resolution adopted in the Northern Provincial council is giving complete satisfaction and pleasure to me, said Sivajilingam, a former TNA MP and current Provincial Council Member and the person who tabled a similar resolution last year in the Provincial Council.
He said that he could not believe himself hearing the speech of the CM, tabling the Genocide resolution in the house. He had revealed several matters regarding the new Sri Lankan regime, their activities International mind-set, etc., sentimentally and from the depth of his heart, said sivajilingam.
He stated this in an exclusive interview he granted to The Tamil Diplomat. Some excerpts of that interview are given below.
Q: As the person who tabled a similar resolution and insisted that it be adopted, last year, what are your reflection on the genocide resolution passed yesterday in the NPC?
A: Although the resolution was mulled for the last one year, it had been tabled and adopted at a correct time at a time when activities are under taken to postpone the UN investigation report. Adopting this resolution is very important, and appropriate. This gives me complete satisfaction and pleasure.
Q: The CM had told that the services of Professors and Legal Experts were obtained to draft the resolution. What have you got to say about it?
A: When I went Geneva last year, I met several parties including the Commissioner against Genocide. The resolution was drafted on the basis of the documents I got from them and with the advices and assistances of experts of many countries. Particularly, the CM had acted in this regard, approaching several parties aid obtained their counsel.
Q: What will you say about the government saying that the CM had tabled the resolution Knowing very well that, what happened in Sri Lanka will not fit into the definition of genocide and that they are rejecting it?
A: A discourse of the definition of the word genocide was given prior to the tabling of the resolution and on that basis we have adopted the resolution. We have adopted the resolution after detailing the Pogroms and persecutions purported on the Tamil people, by the alternate Governments which came to power in Sri Lanka. Hence we have insisted that it entails International Intervention to save Tamil people from the Genocide.
Q: When you tabled this resolution last year, the TNA did not accept it and further stated that, it is not appropriate to adopt the resolution in the NPC. How is that, the resolution was adopted unanimously adopted yesterday?
A: That is the opinion of a few people of the TNA, who are without any basics. We did not take these into account. The members of the Northern and Eastern Provincial Councils signed and requested the tabling of the resolution. This had made a great impact. All the members of the Provincial Council had indiscriminately and whole heartedly got together in adopting the resolution.
Q: Are satisfied about the activities of the CM in adopting the resolution?
A: I am completely satisfied about his activities. I could not believe myself hearing the speech of the CM, tabling the Genocide resolution in the house. He had revealed several matters regarding the new Sri Lankan regime, their activities International mind-set, etc., sentimentally and from the depth of his heart. Many political dignitaries who are concerned with the interests of Tamil people have applauding. Particularly, Political leaders of Tamil Nadu had expressed their pleasure. They have commented that, this is an important political activity undertaken in appropriate time.
