Mano Ganeshan:Tone of NPC Resolution unfortunate
The Democratic People’s Front Leader Mano Ganeshan said that the tone and the wording of the recent resolution of the Northern Provincial Council making remarks on the new government, Prime Minister and the State Minister of Defence is rather extreme and unfortunate.
Addressing a media meeting of the Movement of For Uniting the Country Through Power Sharing, Mano Ganesan further stated that it is one thing to retain the Army for security reasons in the North and it is another to retain lands acquired for the Army, for purposes such as agriculture and tourism by them. In fact, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and JHU Leader Ven. Athuraliya Rathna Thera have understood this issue in the right perspective and expressed views in that spirit he said.
He explained that a consensus has been reached at a meeting of the National Executive Council over the presence of the Army and that many Sinhalese are unaware that lands of the Tamil people were acquired by the Army for purposes other than for security.
He finally stated that the President and the Prime Minister to appreciate the spirit behind Vigneswaran’s statement and the resolution of the Northern Provincial Council.
