Oral update on Sri Lanka inquiry in 27 UNHRC session agenda

UN (OHCHR)The 27th session of the Human Rights Council is to be held from 08 -26 September 2014 at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The Annual report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and reports of the Office of the High Commissioner and the Secretary-General is to be presented on  during the sessions 08 September 2014, under agenda item 2, which remains an open-ended item throughout the session. The SG/HC/OHCHR thematic reports would be presented at the afternoon sessions on 12 September 2014, followed by a General debate.

The Human Rights Council has requested OHCHR to present an oral update to the Council on the implementation of resolution 25/1 on promoting reconciliation and accountability in Sri Lanka and  the presentation of an update on the Sri Lanka inquiry has been included in the agenda for the 27th session of the Council.

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recently strengthened its investigation on the war in Sri Lanka, by adding more clauses to the terms of reference (TOR) which includes a clause on the assistance expected from foreign governments, and the basis under which findings of the investigation will be accepted.
