Another container with Ethanol detected
Two people were arrested in connection with the import of another container of Ethanol today by the Customs Revenue Task Force and the Central Investigations Division. The detection was made at the Orugodawatta container yard.
The suspects were residents of Kotahena and the goods were described in the customs declaration form as ‘Palm Olein’. 80 barrels containing some 16,000 litres of Ethanol were imported on forged documents.
According to a Customs spokesman the loss to the Government would have been over Rs.10 million if the goods went undetected. He said the suspects had produced forged receipts indicating that the importers had paid Rs.17 million as Customs duty.
