Shivajilingam takes oaths in Mullivaikal

tna 2   Tamil National Alliance (TNA) member M.K Shivajilingam took oaths in Mullivaikal this morning as a Northern Provincial Council member.

Shivajilingam said that while earlier nine members had decided to take oaths today eight of them had later pulled out.

It was reported yesterday that on the intervention of Mannar Bishop Rayappu Joseph the nine members had decided to postpone taking oaths today.

However Shivajilingam said he went ahead and took oaths in front of a Justice of Peace today and the other eight are expected to take oaths on another day.

He said that he decided to take oaths in Mullivaikal in remembrance of thousands of civilians killed during the final stages of the war.

Shivajilingam however said the 30 TNA members in the Council will work together despite differences of opinion on the formal oaths taking ceremony held last week and the composition of the Council Ministers.
