Prince Charles to stay at Tintagel, the Bandaranaike home
Prince Charles, who is expected to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in November, has decided to spend his stay in Sri Lanka at the Bandaranaike mansion at Rosmead Place, Colombo.
All the other Heads of State will be accommodated at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel.
About two weeks ago, a special security team for Prince Charles arrived at the mansion, also known as Tintagel, to inspect the place, which was converted into an upmarket boutique hotel several years ago. The security team had also inspected the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, but had preferred the Tintagel for Prince Charles’ stay.
Sir Solomon Dias Bandaranaike had bought the mansion for his son, S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, from Dr. Lucian Arnold Emmanuel de Silva, and the mansion had thereafter known as the Bandaranaike Walauwa.
It was on Tintagel’s veranda in 1959 that Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike was assassinated.(CeylonToday)
