Indrarathana Thero’s last rites at Kahawatte on wednesday
Funeral arrangements of the late Bowatte Indrarathna Thero was announced after the police obtained a court order from the Maligakanda magistrate, to hand over the late Buddhist monk – Ven. Bowatthe Indrarathana Thero’s remains to the temple, following a request by the Kahawatta-Poronuwa Sugatharama Viharaya.
Indrarathna Theroa resided in the Kahawatta area and represented the Pelmadulla Pradeshiya Sabha for some time before he lost the seat for failing to attend meetings. The monk earlier represented the JHU, but the party announced several months back that he had been sacked from the party. Mobs led by Buddhist monks acted violently on Sunday before a funeral parlour in Borella demanding the remains and for the cremation to be made in Colombo.
The Sinhala Ravaya claimed the deceased monk was a member of its organization, demanded that the funeral be organized by them. The organization then marched towards the President’s official residence and five of the monks were allowed to discuss with the secretary of the Ministry of Buddhism.
Meanwhile the Colombo city coroner Edward Ahangama yesterday (26) ordered the Kandy police to find out and take legal action against the people and institution which issued Petrol to Bowaththe Indrarathana thero who self immolateted in front of the Kandy Temple of the tooth. He gave this order at the postmortem of the monk which was held yesterday.

ගව ඝාතනයට එරෙහිව තම සිරුරට ගිනි තබා ගැනීම නිසා අපවත් වූ පූජ්‍ය බෝවත්තේ ඉන්ද්‍රරතන හිමියන්ගේ දේහය පිළිබද අවසන් කටයුතු මැයි 29 වැනිදා සිදු කිරීමට නියමිතයි.උන්වහන්සේගේ දේහය ඊයේ රාති‍්‍ර කහවත්ත ශ‍්‍රී සුගත විහාරය වෙත ගෙන යනු ලැබීය.ගව ඝාතනය ඇතුළු කරුණු කිහිපයකට විරෝධය පළ කරමින් පසුගිය වෙසක් පොහොය දින මහනුවර දළදා මාළිගය ඉදිරිපිටදී ඉන්දරතන හිමියන් සිරුරට ගිනි තබා ගත්තේය.මහනුවර රෝහලට ඇතුළත් කිරීමෙන් පසු කොළඹ ජාතික රෝහල වෙත මාරු කෙරුණු උන්වහන්සේ මැයි 25 වැනිදා අපවත් විය.
