The state Vesak festival will be conducted at the Yudaganawa Rajamaha Viharaya
President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the Diyawanna Vesak zone last night. Head of the Dharmayathanaya Ven. Elle Gunawansa thero, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse were also present.
The national Vesak festival which was jointly organized by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana and the Department of Buddhist Affairs will be held at the Yudaganawa Rajamaha Viharaya in Buttala today. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne will participate at the event as the chief guest.
The Pooja Vesak Zone in Mahara – Kadawatha has been jointly organized by the Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal council the Dhanasiri Amarathunga foundation and Lasantha Alagiyawanna foundation under the instructions of minister Basil Rajapakse.
The Janasevana special Vesak zone, which includes creations of children of urban settlements, is incorporated in the Buddha Rashmi National Vesak Zone. This zone will be kept open from today till the 29th of this month from 6.30 pm onwards.
