Uthayan news paper engaged in false propaganda:Jaffna commander

    Jaffna commander Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe has told the Govt’s “Dinamina” news paper that the Uthayan news paper in Jaffna is transmitting false propaganda to the international community with the intention of disrupting the mutual harmony built between the security forces and the people in Jaffna.

Mjr Gen. Hathurusinghe has further stated that the Uthayan news paper has joined hands with the TNA to become a trumpet of the Pro LTTE Tamil Diaspora, in spreading racism.

Mr. Hathurusinghe has further said that although the TNA calls themselves the representatives of the Tamil community, they had not done anything for the people so far. He says that the people in Jaffna admires the Govt relief program in the North and are considering the Sinhalese and the security forces as their friends.

In such a situation, the Jaffna commander strongly condemns the statement made by the Opposition leader Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe that it was the Army who attacked the Uthayan. He says that this statement made without inquiring the facts from any security sector, is highly irresponsible.

Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, who is touting in Jaffna, met the Uthayan staff on the 25th and discussed about the attack with them.

Uthayan was a target of numerous unidentified attacks and threats since 2006, involving, Murder, abductions, arson, assault and property damage.

During the past 7 years, 35 of such crimes have been reported made upon the news paper and interestingly, Police has so far not been able to arrest at least a single suspect regarding the matter.(srilankamirror)
