Sri Lankan Pilgrims sent back
A group of Sri Lankan pilgrims proceeding to Velankanni on Sunday were stopped midway by the Tiruvarur district police who advised them to return to avoid facing problems.
Seventy-five Sri Lankan pilgrims arrived in India by a Mihin Lanka flight on Sunday evening and left for Velankanni immediately in two buses.
The buses were stopped by the Police on the outskirts of Needamangalam in Tiruvarur district and the pilgrims were advised to return back to prevent any untoward incident, they left back to Sri Lanka from Chennai later in the night.
Earlier there was opposition to the visit of a Sri Lankan MP, Karu Jayasuriya, to Tamil Nadu a few days ago at Tirukadaiyur in Nagapattinam district and in front of the hotels at Tirukadaiyur and Tiruchi where the MP and his wife stayed.
