Protest against SL players in IPL
Members of the Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam will hold a protest in the city on Monday at 11 a.m. against the presence of Sri Lankan players in Indian Premier League 2013.
A release from the Urban District Secretary of the outfit, N. Panneer Selvam, says the presence of Sri Lankan players in Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad has hurt the sentiments of Tamils.
The owners of the two IPL franchises should send back the players as the Sri Lankan Navy had killed hundreds of Tamil fishermen. He has cited the protest against and the subsequent absence of Pakistan players in the last year’s IPL to underscore his point. He has said that the protest will be held at 11 a.m. in front of the Indian Cements office in the city.
In another development, the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam has said that it would protest in front of four industries that had planned to participate in a cotton garment exhibition in Sri Lanka.
In a press release, the organisation’s General Secretary K. Ramakrishnan said that given the “atrocities” the Sri Lankan Government had committed on Tamils, the organisation was against their participation. If they did not stop participating, the organisation would hold a protest in front of their premises on February 27 at 10 a.m.
