Former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has blamed India for the insurgency in Pakistan. In an interview to a Pakistan newspaper, Rajapaksa also suggested that RAW was responsible for his defeat in January’s elections in Sri Lanka in which he was defeated by Maithripala Sirisena-led coalition.
Rajapaksa said in reply to a query, “See the US, Europe, the west, they are not our friends. Pakistan helped us, especially Musharraf. What happened in my country and the insurgency in your country, RAW is behind it.”
A report in the international media had earlier alleged that that a RAW official, an alleged spy, had tried to unsettle Rajapaksa by getting Sirisena to defect from his party before the elections. According to these reports, the Rajapaksa government had asked India to transfer the official out in the run up to the elections.
The Indian government though strongly denied this with MEA saying no Indian diplomat had been transferred out of Sri Lanka before the completion of his three-year tenure in the past one year. (Times of India)
