A domestic investigation cannot be accepted regardless of when the release of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights report into Sri Lanka’s atrocities (OISL) occurs, the Tamil National Alliance said on Sunday 15 Feb.
Commenting on Sri Lanka’s requests to delay the OISL report to allow for a domestic initiative, TNA MP M Sumanthiran, said, “The government has announced that it is seeking support from the international community for an internal investigation. We do not have hope in an internal investigation.”
Mr Sumanthiran further added that the report release could only be delayed if there was an agreement to extend the mandate of the investigation and commitment from Sri Lanka to cooperate with the UN.
Meanwhile, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian, Suresh K. Premachandran speaking to the media at a media meeting held at the Jaffna Press Club stated that the Tamil National Alliance has urged India and the US to support the release of the OHCHR Investigation on Sri Lanka. It has also appealed to these countries to support the implementation of its recommendations.
