Veteran film-maker Bharathiraja scouting for locations

journalistVeteran film-maker Bharathiraja is currently in Sri Lanka scouting for locations in the Tamil-speaking Northern and Eastern provinces for his yet to be named venture.

The trend-setting Director was tightlipped about his project, but said that he is thinking of casting Indo-Lankan actor Pooja Umashankar in the female lead. The film is expected to be an Indo-Lankan joint venture with the involvement of a  Lankan Tamil businessman-cum-film producer, Chevvel, who had reportedly produced three films in Tamil Nadu in the recent past.

Arranged by the politically connected Chevvel, Bharathiraja’s visit was to be low key. But it was not long before local politicians and the media got wind of it.

At an interaction at Tilko Hotel in Jaffna on Saturday, Bharathiraja was non-committal when asked if he would make a film on the Tamil militant struggle in Lanka.

But significantly, he said that it might be better to “let bygones be bygones and look towards the future.”

Bharathiraja told Indian Consul General S D Moorthy that he was impressed with the return of normalcy in Jaffna. (New Indian Express)
