Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Robyn Mudie , and two other officers from the embassy visited the Northern Province to monitor Australian sponsored development projects yesterday. The visiting delegates also met Northern Chief Minister C.V.Wigneswaran in Jaffna .
Speaking to media the Northern CM said; the Australian high commissioner discussed about the obstacles faced by the council in working independently. The obstacles faced due to political pressures and the issue regarding the Chief Secretary were discussed he said.
Efforts taken to improve the economic status of war widows and low income families, land acquisition by the military in the Northern Province. were also discussed the CM said. Australia promised to grant assistance on implementing skills development programmes and take necessary steps to support us in this regard.
The Australian delegates visited Kilinochchi also.
