The Assembly of God (AOG) Hikkaduwa, and the Calvary Free Church, were attacked by a large mob led by monks this morning, demanding their closure, the church said in a statement. The two churches were severely damaged and equipment destroyed.
The prayer centres, which had been operating for over 16 year at Baddegama road, Hikkaduwa, has been attacked by a group of Buddhist monks following a protest launched against it, police report. A group of Buddhist monks have broken into the centre from the back door where nearly 100 people had been praying. The majority among them had been women.
The monks who led the protest said that two Christian worship centers were operating without authorization and demanded that they be shut down.
