The US State Department said Ambassador-at-Large, Office of Global Criminal Justice, Stephen J. Rapp will travel to Sri Lanka, January 6–11, 2014. This is Ambassador Rapp’s second trip to Sri Lanka as Ambassador-at-Large. During this trip Ambassador Rapp will meet with a broad cross section of government officials and political and civil society leaders on a range of issues focusing on Sri Lanka’s justice, accountability, and reconciliation processes.
The Ambassador-at-Large coordinates the deployment of a range of diplomatic, legal, economic, military, and intelligence tools to help expose the truth, judge those responsible, protect and assist victims, enable reconciliation, deter atrocities, and build the rule of law.
The Office of Global Criminal Justice, headed by Ambassador-at-Large Stephen J. Rapp with Deputy Jane E. Stromseth, advises the Secretary of State and the Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights on issues related to war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.
