Eight members of the main constituent parties of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) boycotted the oaths taking ceremony of the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Ministers and TNA Council members today. 30 members from the TNA were elected to the Northern Provincial Council at the recent election. Some of the constituent parties of the TNA had decided against attending the ceremony objecting to the composition of the Council Ministers.
Party leaders of the Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) including five councillors, 2 members including Sidththaran of the People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and K. Shivajilingam of Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) boycotted the ceremony.
However NPC member Ananthi Sasitharan who had earlier decided to take oaths separately in front of a Justice of Peace tomorrow, arrived late for today’s ceremony .
The TNA Council members and Ministers took oaths before NPC Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran.
Sasitharan had earlier said she will boycott the ceremony in protest over Wigneswaran taking oaths before President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
