Sri Lanka Cricket announced that Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Mr. Nishantha Ranatunga wrote to Mr. Dave Richardson CEO of ICC, with regard to the mishap that took place at the opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy in England. It has sought a clarification from the ICC on the mishap which took place at the opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy on Thursday.
During the opening ceremony, when the captain of Sri Lanka Cricket team Anjelo Mathews was speaking, the ICC officials played a Hindi song as background music. It also made the same mistake when Sri Lanka’s national flag was brought to the ground.
Sri Lanka Cricket in its letter sent to the ICC CEO Dave Richardson also questions as to what steps the world cricketing body will take to rectify this mishap.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka’s Buddhist organization Ravana Balaya (Power) wanted the International Cricket Council (ICC) to apologize for playing the Hindi song after the speech by the Sri Lanka Cricket Captain at the inauguration ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy.
