The Commissioner of Elections has summoned the new office bearers of the ‘ ‘Democratic Party, as well as it former General Secretary Mt, Tiran Alles, for a meeting with him on the 28, for a further discussion pertaining to the registration of the ‘ ‘Democratic Party’ While the Leader of the ‘Democratic Party was engaged in the legal process of registering the party , Mr Tiran Alles had submitted his objections to the Elections Commissioner in a letter.
Mr. Alles had stated in his communication to the Elections’ Commissioner that letter submitted by Mr. Fonseka pertaining to his resignation was not authentic and hde requested a copy that letter be sent him.
According to that letter, it is necessary for the Elections Commissioners’s Dept to ascertain whether Mr Alles is Secretary of the party or not, internal sources of the dept. said.
The Election Commissioner’s Office is in a quandary being unable to decide whether Tiran Alles has resigned from the post of Secretary General of the ‘Democratic Party’ led by Sarath Fonseka.
The issue has been caused due to the objection raised by Tiran Alles regarding his resignation letter, which was in the documents regarding the registration of the party.According to the documents produced by Sarath Fonseka Tiran Alles resigned from his post as Secretary General of the Democratic Party and handed over his resignation to the party leader Sarath Fonseka on Sep. 02, 2012. A second resignation letter was handed over on Nov. 14, 2012. Arjuna Ranathunga has informed the party of his resignation from the post of deputy leader on the same day.
However,Tiran Alles has requested from the Election Commissioner that he should be provided with an opportunity to discuss the matter since he produced registration documents first to register the ‘ Democratic Party’.
