The Deputy Minister who contested under the UNP had filed an application seeking an order from court to prevent a disciplinary inquiry by the UNP for voting in favour of the impeachment motion against the former Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake.
Colombo District Court ordered said that Abdul Cader who contested from the United National Party (UNP) should abide by the Party Constitution even though they hold Ministerial portfolios.
The disciplinary inquiry against the Deputy Minister is to be held tomorrow.
Meanwhile Court granted enjoining orders preventing the United National Party from taking disciplinary action against MPs Earl Gunasekera, Lakshman Seneviratne and Nimal Wijesinghe.
The Mount Lavinia District Court on Thursday issued an injunction against UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, preventing them from taking disciplinary action against MP Manusha Nanayakkara.The petition states that MP Nanaykkara had been informed in writing by the UNP, that disciplinary action would be taken against him, for voting in favour of the impeachment motion on the former Chief Justice in Parliament.
Representing Nanayakkara in court, President’s Counsel Faizer Mustapha said that since conscientiously voting on an impeachment motion in Parliament is a constitutional act, it does not violate the constitution of the UNP.
Considering the submissions made, the District Judge issued an interim injunction, that will remain effective until March 20.
